FSI Server benefits at a glance:
  • 25% discount on FSI Server Basic-, Standard- and Enterprise Editions
  • Support provided by NeptuneLabs
  • No limitation of the number of CPU's or CPU cores
  • Customers will be able to continue using FSI Skin and FSI Skin Plus without additional fees*.

*Requirements:
  • A valid eRez server license (all versions, besides ASP editions)
  • FSI Viewer, FSI Viewer Add-ons (e.g. FSI Pages) and FSI Skins in version 4 or earlier need to be updated to version 5 (please refer to our upgrade price list for more details).
  • Previous setup(s) of eRez server must be uninstalled after cross-updating to FSI Server.

Maintenance will be available for FSI Server and other FSI products at an annual fee of 20% of the total license fee. This would of course be based on the normal license fee as listed in the price lists - not the fee for the migration. The Cross-Update price applies to all versions of the eRez imaging server. 100% Compatibility with FSI Viewer, FSI Pages, FSI Cache and future FSI applications

The new FSI Server provides full compatibility with all FSI products. This includes the client applications FSI Viewer, FSI Pages and FSI Showcase and the performance enhancing FSI Cache server solution. Also all images created using FSI Pages Converter can be uploaded to FSI Server without any manual preparations.
Sharpness
The new FSI Server uses a unique scaling kernel for the reduction of image information, which was developed by NeptuneLabs from scratch. This kernel is designed specifically for the optimized display of graphics in typical web applications and does not lead to the usual loss of sharpness in the scaling of high-resolution images. Although the new FSI Server masters methods to increase the sharpness impression, a subsequent increase in contrast with e.g. a blur filter becomes unnecessary with the new image scaling and is generally not applied. Especially catalog views in FSI Pages and users of single-source imaging will benefit greatly from this. Website visitors will be spoilt with brilliant pictures in the future.

Larger image contingent

Unlike the old licensing model, with the new FSI Server Basic Edition you can publish twice as many images than before. The FSI Server Standard Edition increases the licensed image quantity by 1000 images to a total of 5000. FSI Server Enterprise remains naturally as an unlimited version.
No limitation for Multi-Core CPUs

Unlike former imaging servers, the FSI Server uses all available CPU cores for image rendering.
The FSI Server is already well prepared to cope with future technologies, such as SLC SSD and many-core processors.

Non-destructive access to the image-portfolio

The software design of the new FSI Server has been optimized to meet current needs of typical image server customers and also of today's server hardware possibilities. An important aspect of this modern image server architecture is a non-destructive access to existing image assets. The imaging server will not modify any image information of the originals, change the file structure, add additional information in the form of metafiles or even create shadow directories.
Images are imported to an internal storage instead. This storage holds the image data in a format optimized for fast rendering performance. The storage is constantly synchronized with the original image collection, importing new files as soon as they appear.
High rendering performance through parallelization of the rendering pipeline
Not only the latest knowledge in the methodology used for image manipulation, but especially the latest developments in the underlying hardware have flown into the software architecture. The entire software has been developed for modern server operating systems and server hardware. As a result, almost all the internal rendering pipeline is massively parallelized.
A standard web application will only benefit from multi-core systems when handling multiple requests at the same time. The requests are then evenly distributed over the available cores. On the contrary, FSI Servers rendering pipeline was especially developed with maximum performance in mind, therefore every request utilizes all available resources. This improves the response time for every single request. The overall performance is currently limited by the I/O subsystem and the memory bandwidth, which promises the maximum performance increase for the near future, taking current hardware developments such as multi channel RAM and SLC SSDs into consideration.

Linear access speed

As the image data is imported into an internal storage and optimized for fast access to multiple predefined zoom levels, the time consuming task of scaling an image to the requested size is minimized. Therefore a nearly constant access time to any image size and range can be guaranteed, independent of the original image resolution and file format. Only this feature makes single source imaging on a larger scale at all possible, as only guaranteed delivery times allow calculations for a specific prediction for e.g. website performance in load situations, and possibly also for a scaling of the hardware bases.
No images pyramids required
With FSI Server, multi-resolution images are no longer required. FSI Servers accepts flat images as well as multi resolution images in various image formats. Even if provided with multi-resolution images like Pyramid TIFF or FPX files the full resolution is always used for the import, therefore the file format has no impact on the resulting image quality and access times. Internally multiple carefully chosen resolutions are stored, minimizing the necessary scaling operations on access and reducing the resulting moiré effects. Optionally the storage will use lossless compression eliminating even the last source of compression artefacts.

Color fidelity by a defined target color space

As the FSI Server is optimized for delivering images for the web and most browsers expect images to be in sRGB colorspace, all images are converted to sRGB with ITU-R BT.709-5 primary valences on import. CMYK, Gray, Lab and RGB images will be converted to sRGB using the conversion tables provided in the images or predefined by the server. The original images naturally remain untouched. A real-time conversion on request is no longer neccessary which further improves response times.
More image formats
As the FSI Server does not require multi-resolution images, it supports more image formats directly than other imaging servers. The publishing workflow is simplified, as the step of converting images to e.g. pyramid TIFFs is no longer neccessary. Most common image formats, like JPEG, PNG, TIFF and PSD are fully or partially supported. Even less common formats such as BMP, FPX, and GIF can be used. In general, the same rules apply to the FSI Server as to other imaging servers; the original image material has a very large influence the quality of the target images.

Image Effects

Not all images are suitable for integrating them into a website as they are. The needs for real-time image manipulation and effects have grown and the FSI Server has been developed to meet this challenge, utilizing the resources provided by modern hardware. Besides the basic features of an imaging server like cropping and scaling the new FSI Server provides a set of more than 20 real time effects ranging from brightness, contrast and gamma correction to decorative effects such as blurring, disturbance and color overlay.
OpenAPI
Besides the well documented set of commands for real-time access to images, effects and metadata the FSI Server also provides a REST style API for basic image management functionality. This allows the implementation of own user interface applications as well as coupling the FSI Server to digital asset management or content management systems. The full documentation of the OpenAPI will be released with the ASP Editions of FSI Server, which will be available soon.

Light-weight user interface and decoupled server administration

The server itself provides no real management interface, neither for administration nor for the management of images, which on the server-side has many advantages. However, it can be managed though the OpenAPI. The enclosed web interface as a reference implementation of an lightweight browser based application using the OpenAPI to manage the images on the server.
Furthermore, there is a special service for server administration. The newly developed FSI Administrator uses this service to perform administrative tasks like configuration changes and user management. The FSI Administrator provides a unfied interface to administrate all your FSI applications with a single login. The FSI Administrator will be released together with the ASP editions of FSI Server.
